By Larry Leo | Prep: | Servings: 1 | Difficulty: Medium
Ingredients
- 4 oz unfiltered apple cider (for reduction)
- 1 tsp dark brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
- 4 oz chilled vanilla cream soda
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1 cinnamon stick (for garnish)
- 1 thin apple slice (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a small stainless steel saucepan, combine the apple cider, dark brown sugar, and ground nutmeg.
- Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Continue to simmer for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced by half (yielding approximately 2 oz of syrup).
- Remove the reduction from the heat and allow it to cool completely to room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator if not using immediately.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine 1.5 oz of the cooled apple cider reduction and the fresh lemon juice with half of the ice.
- Shake the mixture for about 10 seconds to thoroughly chill and aerate the reduction.
- Fill a highball glass with the remaining fresh ice cubes.
- Strain the shaken mixture into the glass.
- Slowly top with the chilled vanilla cream soda and stir gently with a long spoon to integrate the layers.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a fresh apple slice before serving.
